Do you think Michelle Wie has the temperament of a champion golfer?
–Francis S. Liew, Singapore Hey, she’s 14-years-old. Who knows? But she missed the cut in Hawaii by one shot and didn’t seem devastated. So far, I like her attitude. But I don’t think she needs to be playing in PGA and Nationwide Tour events just yet. Win all the amateur stuff first and mix in a few LPGA events. She could win an LPGA major before age 18, when she’s allowed to be a card-carrying LPGA member. And as I wrote last week, I think she’s got a realistic chance to win the men’s Amateur Public Links Championship, which would qualify her for the Masters… believe it or not. While it’s all wonderful and warm and fuzzy that Michelle Wie played a PGA Tour event, I think it’s a joke to continue to allow women to get sponsor’s exemptions. They have a tour. Go play it or qualify like everybody else to play the PGA Tour. Tim Finchem is in a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don’t situation. Play by the rules or pander to sponsors. I think it’s a disgrace.
