Yes!,ofcourse, (As far as I know,) Karan was informed by Lord Surya that the person who had come in the guise of a poet was none other than Indhra, despite of that karan, by virtue of his in born charecter, he donates this. Here Lord Krishna foresees that Karan is going to stand with dhuriyodhana, (adharma) and Arjun, (perhaps going to be his relative)and pandavas (dharma) have to wage a war, to establish dharma or justice. So to defeat dhuriyodhana, his aid or asst, has to be defeated. It will be very difficult to kill karna as long as kavacha kundal is protecting him.so he stages,a well directed drama and deceives or perhaps try to deceive Karan. But Karan knowing all these facts, he gifts the kavacha kundal and there by stands taller than Lord Krishna . The theme here, may, perhaps, be that a thorn must be taken only by another thorn. But this type of kapata natakas may be beautiful for human beings , and not for Lord Krishna. THAT IS MY HUMBLE OPINION.
