Do you think Lauren Bacall should have won Best S. Actress in 1996?
I’ve seen “The Mirror Has Two Faces” and “The English Patient”, and to tell you the truth, I really didn’t like either of them as much as most other people. But during the Oscars, I actually thought Juliette Binoche deserved to win. Her performance was the most sincere and heartfelt while Bacall was more stiff and one-dimensional. And as for Binoche being nominated in the supporting category instead of the lead actress category, the movie studio wanted to give Kristin Scott Thomas the chance to win in that category for “The English Patient”. But I can understand that you wanted Bacall to win because she’s a screen icon and the performance she gave was the only one the Academy ever recognized. But if she had won, it would have been more of a tribute to her “career” rather than her “performance”.
