Ah!! That old chestnut. The problem is that the police in this country cannot ever win. They should all be on foot and not in cars but if they don’t arrive quickly when you call them then then they’re rubbish. They should all beat up criminals like Gene Hunt did but if they actually do (look at coverage of G20 summit) then they’re thugs. They should all wear Dixon of Dock green uniforms but if they do and let a youngster intrainers and shorts get away then they’re rubbish. They should all only have a good old fashioned truncheon but if they get the s**t kicked out of them by some guy with an iron bar then they’re not fit enough. They should all be 6ft men but if they are they’re declared institutionised sexist and pilloried by the media. They should all catch real criminals and leave the drivers alone but if they do and some one you know is killed by a drink driver or speeder they’re rubbish.
