The music industry has a lot more degrees of success: You can be in a band and support yourself playing local gigs and never ever become famous. You may or may not release a cd through an independent label, which may or may not have any success, locally or nationally. Maybe you’re just the guy who sings Thursday afternoons at your local coffee shop. Or maybe you’re the lead singer of a thrasher band that is lucky to get an opening slot at the nearest club. Or maybe you’re a touring group that plays small venues and has a small but steady fan base. Or maybe you’re Britney Spears (pre K-Fed). There’s a lot of different ways a career in the music industry can go, and the mark of “success” is a fairly gray one.
