Good King Wenceslas looked out On the feast of Stephen When the snow lay round about Deep and crisp and even Brightly shone the moon that night Though the frost was cruel When a poor man came in sight Gath’ring winter fuel

At primary school in the 1950s, we all thought the king was called Wenceless and that the words were "Good King Wenceless last looked out". We also used to sing "Good King Wenceless knocked a copper senseless right in the middle of Marks & Spencers". It was years later before I realised it was Good King Wenceslas.
