Do you think deep ponds make better shaped koi/fish?
I think it’s not just the deepness. I think they also need enough area to move around. That’s probably more important to their well being. For example, you can’t put a koi in a vase shaped pond. Not the size, the shape. :O If the koi can’t turn around and move horizontally properly, he’s probably going to get stunted, no matter how many gallons your pond is. The deepness probably only helps ith survival. I used to have a pond that wasn’t really big. It was pretty shallow. Everytime we put a fish or two in it, the next day, it’d be gone. It was because the neighborhood cats or the predatory birds would just sit there for a few seconds and scoop ’em out. So for survival, deep ponds are good. For well being, a pond with surface area is good. So in short, it’s good to have a combination of both.
