Councillor Denise Wilton, who moved a motion supporting the report’s recommendations, said the council’s local environment plan included principles to protect the streetscapes of Mosman. But her motion was amended by Cr Libby Moline and the recommendation that terracotta tiling be installed was removed and Mr Fraser was given the green light to use Colorbond. After the meeting, Cr Wilton said: “I’m certainly not against modern housing but if you have an older house that you’re renovating it needs to be done in an aesthetically pleasing way and in accordance with our LEP. “I was very disappointed because I thought the style of the house suited the terracotta tiles which are characteristic of the area.” Mr Fraser said after the meeting that some of the comments made by councillors were “absurd”. “I did feel that some of the councillors are really not with it and up-to-date when it comes to attitudes to roofing, but that’s life isn’t it,” he said.
