It already is a world wide sport. The International Baseball Federation “IBAF” already presides over several organized global tournaments, including: * Baseball World Cup (2 separate tournaments for men and women) * World Baseball Classic * Intercontinental Cup * Olympic Baseball Tournament (not in 2012, though) Baseball is hugely popular in the United States, Asia (especially Japan) and the Caribbean (especially Cuba), and is pretty popular in Central and South America. It seems to be gradually increasing in popularity. While it might not be as popular as soccer in many parts of the world, it is still played and followed throughout the globe enough to be considered a “world wide sport”.
