Do you think autistic children should be educated in mainstream or special schools?

Children with special needs need special teachers. This includes those blighted with high intelligence, too. But, hiding away a section of the population from the rest just because they have disabilities of one kind or another isn’t the right thing to do, either. I’m apalled at some of the answers to this question.

It is setting them up for failure putting Autistic children in mainstream, i work in a unit for excluded children, it is so sad when Autistic children are referred to us, they can not succeed in mainstream and can not ‘conform’ to the expected norms of behaviour. They do not always understand why they were excluded and have trouble adjusting to another new environment and set of new people.
