Do you think a Sonicare toothbrush is too harsh for a baby?

I’ve never used a Sonicare, so I have no idea how abrasive it would be in the mouth. My gut feeling is that it is not an appliance for a small child to use. Your baby probably likes the feel of it vibrating, like a vibrating toy, and babies love to put everything into their mouths. When my kids were babies, the dentist recommended just wiping off their little teeth with a soft cloth until they really had enough teeth to brush. As far as getting her a little toothbrush to chew on…tho’ lots of folks do that, a tooth brush is really NOT a good chew toy. And when the little one starts crawling or walking about, if she has the toothbrush in her mouth, it could cause a really bad injury if she falls. (You wouldn’t let her go around with a pencil in her mouth!
It might be a bit rough and irritate the inside of her mouth. Stick to the baby toothbrush! They’re specially designed for babies and have soft bristles. Also, adults’ mouths contain bacteria that causes tooth decay, while babies’ mouths don’t have that bacteria. If your baby puts your toothbrush in her mouth (or if you put her dummy/pacifier in your mouth to ‘clean’ it), the bacteria can transfer to her mouth and potenially decay her teeth. When teeth first come through, they are at their greatest risk of decay and need special protection so also avoid feeding your baby juice or food containing added sugar.
The sonicare is too harsh…but letting her chew on a manual toothbrush actually is a GOOD thing! My son’s chewed on one since he first started putting thing in his mouth (as my daughter did 9 years ago) and now that we’ve got a tooth to brush (we wiped his gums before) he doesn’t bat an eye at us going after it with something he’s used to having in his mouth!
