Absolutely. When a person’s religious beliefs start to inch toward the public sphere, decisions of a public matter will collide very directly with them. A sensible choice for a person of average intelligence in a western nation would be to allow people to express their opinions in the form of satire among others. This very clearly violates the religious beliefs of a Muslim however who would sooner see the writer put to death, than publish a work showing a picture of the “prophet” Muhammad. Irrationality and dogma cannot become the basis for decision making in the public sphere. Allowing it to be effectively demolishes the progress we have made as a society, and removes the foundation we have for discussion and compromise to bring about the greatest good for the greatest number, while respecting the rights of all.
