Do you support laws that forbid prayer in public schools?
Prayer is integral to our faith, but I support laws that keep prayer out of schools. When a faith tradition believes it is the only true faith and brings such an idea into a public forum, upset is sure to follow. When prayer is a declaration of “the right beliefs,” it ceases to be prayer. Prayer must not be permitted to become a platform for promoting one idea of God or religion over another. Many children not believing in any religious practice find prayer an affront. Telling children how to pray and to whom they must pray is the province of family and the church of their choosing. Children have enough to deal with in exploring how best to fit in, get along and learn complex subjects being taught in our schools today. Separation of church and state protects each from the other and helps keep religious battles out of school. The Rev. Bob Luckin Center for Spiritual Living, Redding Constitutionally, our government cannot promote one religion over another. Watered-down, least-common-deno
