Do you steal music off of limewire or the internet?
I don’t feel guilty about “stealing” music because I still buy albums from struggling and local artists. I’m not worried about being caught because the chances are truly that of finding a needle in a haystack. Aside from the fact that I’m smart enough to stick to small programs and abstain from uploading an absurd amount of music to them, the RIAA is unlikely to try to hunt down every file sharer out there. They just want to use a few people as examples. It does not bother me that I’m “stealing” because I’m not. Downloading a song is no stealing because there is no pyhsical product to be stolen. I’m not encroaching on the intellectual property of the performer because I’m not representing the song as being my own. So what? The songs I download are from bands that are making a killing from touring, merchandising, and otherwise whoring themselves. I suppose I just know where to draw the line.
