do you see ‘Idanre’ as a world heritage site in the near future?
It may interest you to know the government is working seriously to get Idanre enlisted as UNESCO heritage site. By early next year, we will be defending the prosposal before UNESCO. We have done the logistics and all that is needed, and I am sure that it will soon become a reality. Is the place ready for UNESCO? The move did not start today. Even before I came in, they attempted to enlist it. I learnt we failed with UNESCO, not because it was not qualified but because we did not do our mapping well. The state’s museum and monument has been assigned to do it. They have submitted their papers, and re-enlisted. I am sure we would get Idanre enlisted by next year. If that happens, it would boost tourism in the state. Many tourists would want to visit it. The whole idea is to promote tourism. And you know tourism promotes the economy of a state. And that aside, with our attempt to be a world tourist destination, we are starting an annual event, an international mountain climbing competition
