Do you rake up the grass clippings after mowing or leave them for nutrients, etc.?

We bag the clippings (riding mower, yay!) and put them in the compost most times, but leave the clippings every second or third or fourth mowing. The clippings act as compost while on the ground too, so there’s definitely an argument for leaving them. I’ve heard it both ways too, so we mix it up.

It looks so messy, especially if the grass isn’t totally dry and the mower leaves clumps of cut grass here and there. We do recycle the grass clippings, though. My hubby has a huge garden with raised veggie beds. Initially, he lays newspaper down on the garden paths and with each mowing, puts the clippings down on the paper, making a nice, weed free walkway. Times when we have mowed without the bagger, it seemed that the clippings just remained and seemed to choke out the roots of the grass, allowing mildew to grow, killing patches of lawn. I think that would only work if we mowed two or three times a week, just topping the new growth. I really like the manicured look of the lawn after we mow with the bagger.
