You will only need a photo id when you are checking in to your hotel, and if you were trying to gain admission to some of the clubs at downtown Disney. I have never been asked for a photo id when using my credit card for purchase while in the World. There is also the option to link a credit card to your room key. With that option you may need to present an id, but on a general basis you will not. It is always better for you to carry it though, you never know. Better safe than sorry. Ticket prices are cheaper online and you will definitely save time by not having to wait in the ticket lines at the park. If you do not want to buy in advance I would recommend buying the tickets as soon as you arrive, and get your stuff settled in your room. You do not have to go into the parks to buy tickets. You can purchase them outside the actual park entrances and at the Ticket and Transportation Center as well as many other places.
