Do you need a licence to make money from coin operated machines in the UK?
If you want to buy a jukebox to put into a restaurant you’ll need a license from the Performing Rights Society (PRS) and a license from PPL. If you’re putting a gaming machine into a restaurant or public place you’ll need a gaming license for an amusement with prizes (AWP) machine. If you’re putting a machine in which returns money or goods for skill (crane grab, quiz machine etc) you need a license for a Skill with prizes (SWP). If you’re putting an entertainment machine in (video game or similar) you don’t need any license. If you’re under 18, you’re unlikely to be considered to have capacity to enter into contract for any of these things and will probably have to get someone to do this on your behalf. If you’re getting any of these machines for strictly private use, you don’t need a license.
