Degree or no degree let me tell you about my experience teaching English in China. My Girlfriend took a 9 week or so ESL class. It cost her about $800.00. She went to Guangzhou, China for a job. It was with a company that had her by the “NECK” she was locked in with a structured teaching schedule. 40+ hours a week. Her pay with RENT was 8,000 RMB Not bad? After 3 months of this she had to get out. The “structure” was to confining. For some that may be fine. So she decided to venture out on her own and teach independently. I came to China not long after that. I came to just “Visit” I had no intentions of teaching English. I had not taken an ESL class or taught English in my life. I have a BA in Graphic Arts. Within 2 weeks of being in China I had the opportunity to teach a class of 30, 13 year old students. I was nervous as hell. I used the info given to me by my GF and others. It went great.
