Do you need a building permit to fix an existing roof on property

It actually depends on where you live. For example, in Colorado, any additions, repairs, and re-reroofing projects exceeding 50% of the total roof require a roof certification. In Indiana, a structural permit is required for re-roofing and tear-off. If you’re just adding a layer of shingles on your residential home, then no permit, as long as you, the propert owner, or a contract purchaser performing the addition.
