Do you need a ball joint press to replace lower ball joints on a 1998 chevy blazer?

A ball joint press is a big help, but it is not absolutely necessary. Many times I have smashed them out with a big hammer, but the trick is you need to have enough room to get a really good shot. This method usually works well on small cars, but I’ve used the hammer method to remove and replace ball joints on a Dodge pickup, but it was really hard to do, they were a really tight fit. You may want to consider renting a press if you find that you cannot smash them out. Hope this helps.
