Do you love the Notting Hill Carnival?
I have it on my doorstep. I’ve just been out to see some of the costumes and they are fantastic. The atmosphere appears to be good. But I’ve also had a steel band playing the same music on a taped loop, outside my front door for 2 days now. This morning I was clearing up the beer cans, broken bottles and glasses that have fallen into my basement. I have just handed a soiled nappy back to middle class couple who tossed into the basement area not realising I was standing at my gate. We’ll have helicopters going over the house till the early hours. Then tomorrow I will have clear up the same rubbish. Considering we don’t normally have 1.5 million extra people walking down the end of road it is going quite well. Do I think we need the extra police. Yes. Do I think it should be moved to an area where it can be better policed, Yes. It hasn’t been a local carnival for decades now. I think the floats and costumes are wonderful, it is wonderful to see people enjoying themselves. I just feel in
Don’t mean to sound prudish but the fact that you mention that the person who threatened you was black, it makes you sound that it was because of his race that he threatened you. If it was a white man you probably would have just said ‘because I bumped into a man accidently’. Of course the whole violence thing can definately NOT be condoned. It is a shame that people can’t go and just have a good time without feeling that they may become victim of a crime. I missed it this year but will definately go next year purely because I love the music and food and costumes.
