Do you know of any alternatives to feather/down doonas and wool blankets?
Q Hi Uncle Dave, I’ve been searching for some alternatives to feather down and wool doonas and blankets and aren’t getting anywhere. Is there anything available? Cheers. A Yes, there are alternatives. For doonas, what I have found to be the best is Dacron Hollofil. I have bought two Dacron doonas – a summer weight and a winter weight – and I find them fantastic. (I also have a Dacron sleeping bag.) They are very warm and better than feather doonas in that they are completely allergy-free, and always remain the same thickness all over. (As opposed to having feathers fall to the bottom all the time.) I purchased the doonas at a normal manchester store, but they should be available from bedding stores too. In regard to blankets, I have some that are made from acrylic fibres. These are just as warm as those made from wool (as acrylic jumpers are).
