do you know of an animal that is out at night- makes loud sort of clicking sounds and may come after a dog (large german shepard) without being provoked?
Answer Dear J Norton Thanks for your question. I have tried to determine the animal in your question, but have only come up with a few possibilities. I have made the assumption that the clicking noise is made by the animal in question, but you should bear in mind that dogs have a better sense of hearing than people do, so the dog may have been disturbed by something you couldn’t hear. Also, your dog may have provoked the animal, or may have threatened the animal’s young. First of all, I think I can discard clicking insects, such as beetles, as I don’t think they would attack or scare the dog. Despite this, I have read that you have recently had a mass eruption of cicadas, which may have affected the dog, but the cicada call can hardly be described as a click. I also think that the animal is probably not a bird, some of which may make clicking noises. I have heard of birds mobbing owls and other birds of prey, but not of mobbing dogs, especially not at night. I’ll also discard dolphins
