Carrie’s situation was obviously classified as emergency. We were TOLD that she was going to the Boston Shrine…there was no question. There are three Shriners Hospitals that specialize in burns. However, the other 18 hospitals (including Springfield) treat pediatric orthopedic conditions such as those listed below. Kids needing these services must be referred by a physician or apply directly for admission. There is a “catch”. To be admitted it must be determined through a medical review process that the Shriners Hospitals can provide medical care better than what a patient is now receiving. The Shriners accept kids up to the age of 18 and on a case by case basis, continue the treatment until the age of 21. Please help spread the word! Not only have we seen what they do for kids with burns, but we have spent quite a bit of time in Springfield. This is where Carrie is getting her prosthetic legs.
