Do you have any specific proposals to be placed before the SAARC government leaders at their Thimphu meet?
Yes, we have worked out a pretty long list of proposals and these had been furnished in a recent meeting of SAARC business leaders in Kathmandu. The demands listed follow: Increase of SAARC Visa Stickers from 100 to 500 and issuance of 500 multiple business visas for each country and these visas should be exempted from city restrictions. The SAARC chambers representatives should be included in the ministerial and summit meetings and their participation in allied institutions of SAARC as a consultative representative of the private sector should be ensured. Non-tariff measures and para-tariff measures not notified in the World Trade Organisations should be prohibited. A code of good practice should be followed before introduction of any new non-tariff measures. Para-tariffs should be converted into a single tariff with greater flexibility and longer transition period for the least developed countries.
