Do you have any doubts that O.J. Simpson committed the murders of his wife and Ron Goldman?

When the verdict of “not guilty” came out all those years ago, I was skeptical, but since I hadn’t really followed the trial and didn’t know all of the evidence, testimony, and so on, I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he was not guilty, even if I suspected otherwise. However, when he came up with his If I Did It book, that absolutely appalled me and removed nearly all of my presumption of innocence. Only nearly all, though… it’s possible, though I think very, very unlikely, that the man simply has no respect for his dead wife and a very poor sense of taste, and really did just feel like telling a “what if” story. So yes, I do still have a teeny, tiny, itty-bitty amount of doubt that he committed the murders. But I overwhelmingly think that he did it.

And it’s always bugged me… Try planning a similar murder against a theoretical spouse. Account for everything – buying the weapon, disposing of the weapon, disposing of the clothes, eliminating all forms of DNA evidence, etc. It’s not easy. And the odds are good that you’d be caught and convicted, no matter how well you planned everything. You’d have to be pretty sharp to cover all of your bases. And frankly, I don’t think that O.J. Simpson is that clever. Yes, the prosecution and the police botched the case, but Simpson wasn’t released on a “technicality.” He was released due to insufficient evidence. If he was able to pull that off – especially in a “fit of rage”* – he’d have to be very, very meticulous. * When meticulously planning a murder, you use a gun, or a poison – not a bladed weapon that splatters evidence everywhere.
