Do you feel Brit-Asian music is influenced too much by Bhangra?
Not at all. As a community, all of us incorporate the josh and the energetic rhythms from bhangra. It’s never too much since it has the captivating energy to make people shake their legs. Though bands from the U.K. have been hugely popular internationally, it is very recently that they are gaining acceptance in India. What is the reason for this? It’s a direct result of a late realisation to find the roots of our music. Now that we have been accepted by the Western world, we want to return to our homeland and give our music back to the people who taught us the music. If they love it, you will go crazy with it. How did Hyderabad Blues 2 and Bluff Master come about? Our song that was featured in Hyderabad Blues 2 was our debut soundtrack effort, and it was the turning point in our career, especially with regard to Indian audiences. Thanks to the track, we performed at the MTV Awards recently and two of the tracks from Hanging Around have been included in the soundtrack of Bluff Master. W
