Do you consider Franz Ferdinand, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Strokes, and the White Stripes your peers?
They’re fellow musicians. I really like what Franz Ferdinand do. I feel like we’re in the same camp at this moment. I think the White Stripes are great. I know where they got what they do and I like where they got it from as well. The Strokes? I dunno. Whatever. I think they write good songs. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are nice folks. But I can’t say that I feel we’re all in the same camp. VH1: If a new fan got turned onto you guys who would you recommend that they listen to? I could spend all day listing bands. At the end of the day what me and my friends are as musicians is an accumulation of everything we heard and our own persons added to it. It’s not so easy to just say, “These are the influences.” I’ve listened to some really terrible music in my life and it influenced me. I listen to a lot of great music and it influences me. Some of the stuff that I think is great now, I’ll eventually think is terrible. And some of the things I think are horrible now, I’ll actually get later. VH1: You
