No, it is not the responsibility for the government to provide anything for us except an economic climate in which we can provide for ourselves. Remember, government has no money of its own. It only has money that it confiscates from private citizens in one form or another. Thus, every program government institutes is paid for by extorting money from those who have actually earned it. Thus, the various government welfare programs are little more than the government the legalized enslavement of those who do play by the rules (get an education, work hard to earn a living for themselves and their families, etc.) and give it to those that don’t. I don’t have any problem with helping those who are truly unable to support themselves. I don’t have a problem with providing temporary help for those that fall on hard times.
