Do you believe the stories about Area 51 hiding alien aircrafts and evidence of alien life ?
Those stories are just a smokescreen to conceal the real purpose of Area 51, which is the design, construction and testing of weapons of mass destruction. The government (unlike the general population) is not stupid. They will use any form of concealment and propaganda they feel is appropriate to conceal their activities.
