Yup. A big naturalist, Rachel Carson, is an icon in early childhood education. She wrote about nature and our sense of wonder, that children NEED to play in natural environments in order to become aware and self-determining, that for every symbol or conceptualization that we make removed from nature, and away from actual full sensory perceptions of nature, we take a step away from rationality into deepening meaningless subjective abstractions. When early feminists and humanists wrote about how important it is that we have “rational” educations, it was because one cannot remain free unless one is rational. Naturalists in early childhood education (< 8 years old) have been screaming this case for thirty years.
