Do you believe that long term marijuana use alters someones personality?
It is no more dangerous than someone who drinks alcohol. If someone drinks in moderation they are fine, if they start drinking all the time and become an alcoholic then their persona changes. The same with marijuana, used in moderation it has no long term affects, but if someone stays stoned all the time they do become lazy, lethargic, and generally don’t want to do anything. Much the same as an alcoholic. So when talking about the affects, compare it to legal substances already in use and you will see the differences are very few. And no, not everyone that gets high ends up doing crack, the same as not everyone that drinks beer and wine ends up drinking pure grain.
The idea that weed is physically addictive is inane. It is psychologically addictive without a doubt. However, there are no withdrawal symptoms for weed save for the urge to have more to calm ones anxiety. Unlike alcohol, the worst drug in the world (and highly addictive) weed produces no harmful withdraws like coma or death. As far as causing someone to go mad that is as likely as one being struck by lightning. It reminds me of the old scare movies produced by the government in the 60’s. It can make one lazy and irresponsible – and forgetful as far as short term memory is concerned. I smoked it for 13 years before quitting. I had no withdrawal symptoms, I am nor have I ever been “mad” and I am successful, happy and am a supporter of a law that would legalize it. It is alcohol that needs to be outlawed.
Yes it definitely alters the personality. It makes people very very boring. Fortunately it is surprisingly easy to give up, and here’s the magical thing. When you give it up, all your smoking friends cut you out of their lives and you don’t have to listen to them mumbling about the Grateful Dead all night. Hash smokers are notoriously negative and here’s why, they keep seeing SNAGS in everything, as an excuse for not actually DOING anything.
