Do you believe in lost ancient civilizations of developed technology?
It’s not the height of technology to build a big mound, whether of rock or earth (as the Mayans and native peoples in Illinois and many other peoples did), it just takes a lot of man-hours. I don’t believe that people today are all that much smarter than people 8000 years ago, but we stand on the shoulders of giants. By the age of 10 I had writing skills that would have amazed Sumerian priest-scribes, though my handwriting was still lousy; by 16 I could solve math problems that would have baffled Archimedes. That’s not because I’m a genius, it’s just because we have accumulated useful knowledge over millennia, and my teachers taught me well.
