Let me see if I understand. Cuomo, I believe is part of the band Weezer. And self-effacement is the act or fact of keeping oneself in the background, as in humility. I am not sure I can agree with Rivers. First off, this seems a little hypocritical since Weezers songs (especialy on Pinkerton) come across as quite personal; words like I and me appear in their songs from time to time. But self-effacement also refers to humility, which does seem like weezer. However, one counterexample to his theory can be found in rap artists, who can’t go for much longer than 20 seconds without praising their own worth. Some would say rock and rap are two different entities, I disagree. Here are three theories I would favor: Passion. To me this is the most obvious answer. From passion comes energy and dedication.
