Do women wear skirt suits to work anymore?
I mostly wear jeans, button down tops or sweaters, and running shoes to work – never high heels and pantyhose. Sometimes during the summer I wear tank tops and skirts with flat sandals. I have this bag (mine is in the camo print): http://www.manhattanportage.com/catalog/… Sometimes I use my larger bag if I need to bring binders/books to and from home (mine is blue): http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/products/tote… I do own some nice pant suits and skirts from Ann Taylor and kitten heels, but those are for special occasions, not for every day.
I do wear skirt suits to work, mainly because I always have a problem with the way pants in a pant suit look on me. Also there are a lot of really cute patterns with skirts suits now like I have a black one that has some pretty pleats on the back and a shorter tweed one that I wear with a solid jacket. When I’m picking out stockings/pantyhose I try to base it on the shirt that Im wearing. For example if Im wearing a floral/printed shirt I prefer wearing sheer skintoned pantyhose, but if its a sold color shirt with a black suit I like the way sheer blakc stockings look on it. Recently there has been a surge of really cute maryjane style shoes and I think they look the best with skirt suits, they’re both stylish and appropriate for the outfit. I definitely would not wear sandal type shoes or ankle lenght shoes as they shorten your legs. As for purses, I think anything really goes as long as the colors relatively match.. Hope this helps!
I work in a lab setting with some pretty nasty chemicals so I wear only pants and closed toe shoes. On days that I know I’m going to working with the nasty stuff, I wear jeans instead of slacks. (And the white lab coat, of course). In academia, those professors who also teach may wear nicer clothes, but when they are in the lab, they usually wear pants or jeans. I do have a pants suit that I used for my interview and maybe if I am presenting at conferences. But in general, my field is pretty laid back, so I can get away with slacks and a sweater or blouse. I’m not a huge fan of skirts and I’m grateful that I work in an environment where it isn’t odd to not be wearing one.
I find it interesting that not alot of women wear the skirt suits any more. I find it hard to find nice looking ones that don’t look too churchy to wear to work. I wear pants everyday and for some reason it is more fashionable to me. Especially the ones I have from express….it shows my figure a little more and my shirt is tucked in. I wear stockings in the winter and high heels. I like big purses but of course you must match your outfit properly. If you have wide legged pleated pants a smalled purse would compliment. If you have regular fitting dress pants than a medium to larger work purse looks great. Styles today are endless just have fun!
