of course they prefer buff guys when considering men on their appearance solely- however, you’ll find that women, much moreso then men- often are equally attracted to other features (things like humour, intelligence, depth, generosity of heart, charm, and and even of course- wealth)- hence the best looking guys are often not the guys who are happy or successful in relationships. The same does go with women, but this usually occurs later down the track, as men more or less, lets face it are often just looking for the best looking girl they can find for their first twenty five or so years.
