From over 6000 cases from my Advice Line and web site, the reported bullies are split roughly 50/50, with a slight bias towards more female bullies – this is likely because of the high percentage of calls from the caring professions (teaching, nursing, social work, charity/voluntary/not-for-profit). About 75% of callers (targets) are female – not because more women get bullied than men, I think, but because in our society females are more likely to admit to being bullied, and are more likely to want to take action to do something about it. The main difference between male bullies and female bullies is that females are MUCH better at it than males. Much more devious, manipulative, subtle, and charming, often with a smile.
