Do wind farms cause health problems?
In over 25 years and with more than 68,000 turbines installed around the world, no scientific study has drawn a causal relationship between the presence of wind turbines and physical health effects on nearby residents. While there may be anecdotal evidence to suggest that turbine noise and shadow flicker is related to psychological effects on nearby residents, the number of people who report these effects is extremely low. Many researchers now believe that reported health problems may be the result of sleeping problems because of the night time noise from nearby wind turbines, which can be annoying for some people. By way of contrast, it is well documented that people who live in the vicinity of coal fired power plants exhibit higher rates of cancer, as well as various other illnesses.
