Do white German shepherds differ in personality than other colours?
A canine geneticist once came up with the theory that the gene which produces long-coats and white-coats in German Shepherds is in some way associated with the gene which produces timid temperaments. However a naturally timid puppy of whatever coat type or colour can become more confident if it is properly socialised and trained.
Yes and no. The white color itself does not have any bearing on personality and white dogs do not have any problems that don’t also exist in any of the other colors. However, since white is a disqualifying fault (and usually a fairly easily avoidable one if the breeder knows what they’re doing) the majority of the breeders out there are not breeding responsibly (BYB!). As a result, whites seem to have a tendency to be more skittish and have more fear issues (many of which may be related to socialization, however we’ve all known dogs who were virtually neglected as pups that grew up to be well adjusted dogs so part of it is genetics). However, keep in mind that there are a LOT of colored dogs with the same problems. Breeding dogs with no regard to the parent’s temperament and not socializing dogs as puppies are going to result in dogs with temperament problems. While someone breeding specifically for the white color (or any other specific color or look for that matter) is more likely to
