Description: Andrea Rugh, Adjunct Scholar, Middle East InstituteDespite many changes in the role of Arab women in recent years, Westerners continue to see them as “oppressed” and lacking normal opportunities to become educated, employed, or participate in the political arena. Dr. Rugh has lived and worked in Arab countries for over 40 years, and is the author of several books on the Middle East. She will discuss these issues and describe the problems Arab women identify as ones that their societies should address.
