Do we need to convert monies from America to shop in Shanghai and Bejing? Credit cards ok?

When I was in Shanghai and Bejing I was able to use my credit cards at major stores. If you plan on using your credit cards call you credit card company and tell them when and where you will be so your card is not declined. I recommend shopping at the local stores and at the markets. Only cash is accepted there. I would exchange a decent amount of money at the airport or use an ATM (in many hotels) to get the local money. Also, when you are at markets and local stores BARGAIN! Tell them at least half the asking price. Say you bought a similar item before it was not that much. If that doesn’t work tell them you will go somewhere else. Beware that they will chase you down. At a market in Shanghai a guy grabbed my arm and pulled me back to his area. Scary! He meant no harm but still!
