Do we list Forest Service Information offices in DUDS even if they are located on private land (like in town)?
A. Generally Forest Service offices do not meet the definition of a recreation site. They are information collection points but most of the time visitors are not recreating at the site itself. If the FS Office has a major interpretive exhibit or other recreation facility AND it is ON FS land, you can list it as a DUDS. Year 1 and 2 forests that did list these sites have found that people are not really recreating at ranger stations and the survey questions do not make much sense to the people being interviewed. Several forests actually dropped their ranger stations from the survey after several interviews.
