Do watching and listening to music videos have a negative effect on teens?

Yes and No. It really depends on how emotionally stable the teenager is. If the teen is already down on themselves and they do not like the way there body looks then they watch a video with say Jessica Simpson in a little bikini dancing around a car, then the teen could get even more down on themselves and believe that in order to have anyone like them they have to be that skinny and act in a certain way or dye there hair a certain color. Same goes for teens that are depressed when they hear a song that talks about suicide or killing someone else and they are already very depressed some teens listen to these songs and feel the song is talking about them and they do what they fell the song is telling them to do meaning some take it as far as actually killing themselves or murdering someone else and people after wards blame it on the song. Which I think is ridiculous you cant say one single song really forced you to kill someone your just so messed up you believe that song is telling you
