Do vision problems cause dyslexia?
There is no valid scientific evidence to support this theory. The local chapter of The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)—MNAPP.org—states that (in a recent policy statement from the August 2009 issue of Pediatrics, the peer-reviewed, scientific journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics), “In a joint policy statement, Learning Disabilities, Dyslexia, and Vision, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Opthalmology, the American Association for Pediatric Opthalmology and Strabismus, and the American Association of Certified Orthoptists set out recommendations for identifying and treating dyslexia, a language-based disorder.
