Do virtually all blood tests performed in hospital laboratories come from Beckman Coulter?
Mr. Wareham: We can perform 100% of the routine testing in the hospital; that was one of the results of putting Beckman and Coulter together, along with some of the other acquisitions we did in the mid-1990s. The goal was to provide all of the routine testing, so that we could work the entire testing process in the lab. TWST: Will acquisitions continue to play a part in your future? Mr. Wareham: During the mid-1990s, we did about five or six acquisitions with the purpose of broadening our testing primarily in the hospital. So we’re fairly complete on the clinical diagnostics side for the target customer in the hospital. Today our focus in that area is more on adding new tests and streamlining the process with automation.
