Do Trolls only live in Scandinavian countries?…..?
In Scandinavian folklore scholarship, the term “troll” does not refer to a specific entity but rather encompasses a range of creatures. It is a motif signifying the “Other,” something other than human. Ogres, giants and goblins share the same function and the terms are often used interchangeably. Similar to how elves and faeries were historically regarded as the same until the rise of popular culture conceptions of such creatures. The word “troll,” however, originates in the region of Scandinavia so in a linguistic sense, yes trolls only live in Scandinavia but in a structuralist or functionalist approach they would be considered global.
