Do tire softeners work to restore grip?
A. A racing tire compound is a complex chain of molecules. Over time, heat, ozone, and air cause the compounds to break down. This can be observed on a hot day when the surface of the tire turns blue. I have not tested a softener product which restores grip to a dead tire. Most tires will form a layer dead rubber and when this is scrubbed off the tire is perfectly good.
