I have never known of somebody being admitted into a psychiatric ward for agoraphobia alone. Perhaps the person you know has other mental health issues that you are not fully aware of. I’ve worked on mental health wards and have recieved (out-patient) treatment for my own depression. Being on a mental health ward is no relaxing break!!! All of the patients I have come accross have been seriously ill, and resent the fact they have to be on the ward. Living temporarily on a ward you have basic, plain living conditions shared with very distressed, often noisy people. You have limited freedom and most of the time limited freedom to leave the ward. Not to mention the fact you have no privacy as you have nurses and dr’s assessing your behaviour. There’s not much you can do and you’d probably get very bored if you have to be a ward for a long period. All that considered,I honestly do not believe many people use hospital admission as a “cop out”. Even if people want to use being mentally ill a
