Do they treat pets badly at animal shelter?
The majority I am sure do not though just like everything there are sometimes a few bad apples. The thing is that many animal shelters are low staffed due to the fact the majority are non-profit. That’s a big reason why these places have volunteers many animals would not get walked or get some individual attention if they did not have volunteers. The shelter I volunteer at the majority of the dogs who are available for adoption and even some who aren’t available but are on the adoption floor anyways get TLC from Volunteers almost every day dogs get out for a walk at least once a day sometimes twice or three times. It’s certainly hard to give all the animals personal attention they out number the staff and volunteers. Typically the animals that you see on the adoption floor is only a small tip of the ice berg. They have many dogs/animals in the back who may be sick, have been rescued and are waiting a court case, animals who have recently come in and have not been processed yet etc The
There are some shelters that don’t treat the animals the way they should be and those shelters should not be running. Animal controls are usually don’t care about the animals they get and are often in it just for pey. The shelter I got my puppy from was an animal control and the condition he was in when I bought him was horrible. He was dirty, wet, skinny, covered in fleas, his head was covered in scabs and he had 4 different types of worms, and when they get injured animals they don’t do nothing to help them but just let them go for anyone who is willing to save them. It horrible. Others shelters care only for the animals and not for the money, thats the type of shelter I foster for. They save animals w/out any kennel use but bases off only foster homes. The money they get for the dogs that get adopted can barely pay to keep them saving animals. Those are the shelters that should get credit for helping animals.
Most treat them the best that they can, considering the circumstances. They have hundreds of dogs, so they dont get the socializing, mental stimulation, or ideal care. It is not a good place for them by any means. They get very stressed in this kind of atmosphere, living in a small cubical like kennels, with dozens of other dogs loudly barking. Do whatever you can from letting your pets end up there, and when you want a new pet, ADOPT.
They don’t beat them if that’s what you mean. They try their best (at least most do). They can honestly only do so much. When you have maybe.. Twenty shelter workers, but 100 dogs and half as many cats, it’s hard to tend to every individual need of each animal. In fact, I’d say it’s close to impossible. So sometimes you have to give them a break. And for some people, they need to stop blaming shelters for bad care and the number of animals being put to sleep, it’s all the animal owners fault. Had they committed to the animal and taken the proper care of it, 75% wouldn’t be in the shelters.
